Edwards Award Speech

On June 26, Jim Murphy spoke at the Margaret A. Edwards Award Luncheon during the ¹ú²úÊÓƵÍøAnnual Conference in Washington, D.C. Murphy won the 2010 Edwards Award for significant and lasting contribution to writing for young adults for
An American Plague: The True and Terrifying Story of the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793;
Blizzard! The Storm That Changed America;
The Great Fire;
The Long Road to Gettysburg; and
A Young Patriot: The American Revolution as Experienced by One Boy. Read his

Morris Award Speech

In 2010, L.K. Madigan won the Morris Award for best first novel for teens for
Flash Burnout. Madigan could not attend the ceremony at the ¹ú²úÊÓƵÍøMidwinter Meeting in Boston, Mass. However, she did send the following video acceptance:

Nonfiction Award Speeches

Deborah Heiligman won the first YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction Award. The award was presented to Heiligman at a ceremony at the ¹ú²úÊÓƵÍøMidwinter Meeting in Boston, Mass. In addition, honor book honorees Philip Hoose (
Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice), Tanya Lee Stone (
Almost Astronauts: 13 Women Who Dared to Dream), and Sally M. Walker (
Written in Bone: Buried Lives of Jamestown and Colonial Maryland) spoke at the ceremony. Candace Fleming was unable to attend. YALSA has provided a transcript of

Printz Award Speeches

The 2010 Printz Award Program and Reception took place on June 28, 2010 during the ¹ú²úÊÓƵÍøAnnual Conference in Washington, D.C. Winner Libba Bray (
Going Bovine) accepted her award, as did honor book authors John Barnes (
Tales from the Madman Underground: An Historical Romance, 1973) Deborah Heiligman (
Charles and Emma: The Darwins' Leap of Faith), Adam Rapp (
Punkzilla), and Rick Yancey (
The Monstrumologist).
